I added an ftp account cannot see my files when I ftp to the site

Thats because when you set up the account you likely set it up as a sub account with a specific directory (i.e. nameofsubaccounthere). "Sub accounts provide ftp access to the users specific directory and all sub directories within that directory".

If you want a sub ftp account to have root access then when you create the ftp account don't type anything in the directory slot and leave it set for root Home (which is indicated by the house icon).

Or for example, you don't want it to have "root" access but you want it to have access to the file directory then set it for /public_html (represented by the
"house icon"/public_html).

In actuality, when you create the ftp account in Cpanel it will autopopulate the directory in the field just below where you enter the password using the scheme:  /public_html/nameofsubaccounthere with the assumption it is a sub account and all you have to do is back off the sub directory portion and leave the public_html portion and then the sub account would have access to your file directory (as if it was root) but not root access to the server account at large.
